Hey I’m Duke! A very active mixed breed boy, around 2-3yrs old, who is exceptionally affectionate, and I’m on the lookout for my forever family. I’m currently in foster care, which has taught -me so much about being a happy dog.
I have been in the rescues care for quite some time now. Why? Because I really, really want to be around people, all of the time! Even if I can just sleep at someone’s feet as they work, I am happy. I’m slowly working on building up the time I feel comfortable enough alone to keep my voice down and feel safe, but I know somebody out there will have the time to help me with this. Since I’m still taking baby-steps being alone, I really want a home where someone is around most of the time to start. It is important that I learn to be left alone regardless though! I don’t want to be stressed out if I need to spend some time at the vets, or everyone needs to go out without me. I know my friends at the rescue will help me settle in with my new family and show them how to make me feel safer.
Guess what though? I am a SUPERSTAR on the lead, both the short lead and the very long-leads we use so I can sniff around and explore at my leisure. If you have a ball, I only have eyes on you! It is still important I get time to sniff and explore the world quietly as well though, a bit of both tuckers me out and I fall right asleep.
When it comes to people, I pretty much love everyone! I am good with kids and like to play ball, and I even drop it at their feet after I chase it. I might accidentally knock over very small kids, so it’s best I’m on a lead around them just in case. I am very gentle taking treats, and it’s not very often at all that I jump. Occasionally I will find the odd person scary, but this is few and far between. I’m so good on the lead though, it is easy to keep me under control and safe.
I like polite dogs who don’t jump on my face or bark at me. They are fun to play with! While I’m happy to walk past small dogs and enjoy sniffing or a ball, it is probably best I find a home without the little fluffies, as I can be boisterous sometimes. Cats can be exciting; I can tolerate them walking past but to play it safe I would like a cat-free home.
I have been really good on lead around stock animals – although sheep and goats are particularly interesting, and I will need some time and training to not go investigating!
All our dogs are destined to be family dogs that sleep indoors with the rest of the family.
Duke is desexed, vaccinated, chipped & registered.
