Moose came to us from SPCA Whakatane, he was already on their radar after being left on a chain at a house. No one was living there & someone was coming to feed him every once in a while. While stuck on the chain a pack of dogs were loose & mauled him, he was in a pretty bad state. The SPCA BOP team literally put this boy back together, helped him to start building trust with people & got him on the road to recovery.
Since arriving with us, Moose has gone into foster care & is now living semi-rural with 6 other dogs & absolutely loving their active home life.
We initially thought that he had elbow dysplasia, but after more xrays it turns out he had a break in his growth plate that was never corrected, which has caused fusion in the joint. He is on a monthly injection of Beransa which is really helping him, so this would be an on-going cost of around $150 per month. The other alternative is for us to do an amputation of his front leg.
The issue with his elbow does not slow him down but it is going to be limiting for him in some scenarios. He has been coming along to all our events, has been used for our dog reactive training & new dog assessments. He has been amazing in every situation we have put him in. He is also fantastic with cats, but can find little people a tad overwhelming.
He is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, registered & like all our dogs are destined to be family dog that sleeps indoors with the rest of the family.
