Moose came to us from SPCA Whakatane, he was already on their radar after being left on a chain at a house. No one was living there & someone was coming to feed him every once in a while. While stuck on the chain a pack of dogs were loose & mauled him, he was in a pretty bad state.

The SPCA BOP team literally put this boy back together, helped him to start building trust with people & got him on the road to recovery. They held onto him for quite a while for us to have space & as he was very nervous meeting new people, the wonderful team member caring for him flew down with him for the day to help settle him in with us. Her taking the time to do this meant he was really comfy with a couple of us within a few days.

He initially had quite a lot of one-on-one time with one our duty managers to get a good foundation in place. He has been with us nearly a month & is absolutely thriving. Quite frankly, this boy just blows us away. With everything he has been through, he just keeps rocking life! He has been amazing with every dog we have introduced him to, so much that we are now using him as our training/assessment dog with other dogs at the shelter. He also surprisingly loves a good ear scratch, despite his scar tissue. We have a quick routine in place for new people & he is no longer worried about strangers – as they always have a super yummy treat for him!

He does have some elbow dysplasia & arthritis on his left front leg so it will have some on-going medication requirements & it will limit his movement/exercise levels as he gets older, but this boy has so much love to give!

He is estimated to be around 2-4 yrs old, is a complete dream in all situations we have put him in & is wonderful on lead.  He is extremely house proud & has 2 couches in his run that he lounges around on.  He is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, registered & like all our dogs are destined to be family dog that sleeps indoors with the rest of the family.
